When bonding problems occur, it is tempting to increase heat or pressing time. However, more heat does not necessarily create a stronger result. Over-fusing can damage the fashion fabric, alter its appearance, and produce an excessively rigid hand-feel. In some cases, the adhesive may spread too far or create unwanted strike-through. Manufacturers using fusible interlining should therefore aim for controlled activation rather than maximum heat exposure.
The ideal fusing cycle depends on the material combination. Excessive temperature can scorch delicate fabrics or leave shiny areas, while excessive pressure can flatten the fabric surface. Holding the panel under heat for too long can create similar problems. A board-like finish is often a warning that the process is too aggressive or that the selected interlining is heavier than necessary. Operators should compare the finished sample with the original fashion fabric and evaluate whether the garment retains its intended drape and flexibility.
The right interlining fabric should provide the required structure without overwhelming the outer material. If the finish feels too stiff, manufacturers can test a lighter grade or reduce the relevant process variable according to the material’s requirements. Small test swatches are useful because they allow several combinations to be compared before production begins. The goal is a stable bond with a natural finished hand, not simply the strongest possible adhesion. Proper process control protects both the interlining and the fashion fabric while helping factories maintain consistent garment quality.
