In cryogenic piping or high-temperature steam lines, material behavior matters. I specify ASTM A320 L7 stud bolts for sub-zero zones and A193 B16 for high heat. These stud bolts are engineered to resist temperature-related embrittlement or creep—ensuring flange joints stay tight across extreme ranges.
We test these stud bolts for elongation and hardness before use. In a recent LNG installation, cryogenic-rated stud bolts survived thermal cycling from -196 °C to ambient—and the flanges never leaked. Such reliability comes from choosing material that matches the operating conditions.
