How to Torque Multiple Stud Bolts Properly

Installing a stud bolt means more than tightening nuts. I follow a star pattern sequence to ensure even compression on the gasket. Lubricate every stud bolt and nut pair. Torque incrementally—at least three passes—and always follow the torque-rated spec sheet.

In compressor pipelines, this practice stopped flange creep and reduced maintenance needs. Every stud bolt torqued correctly is one less leak and one less safety hazard. Consistency saves days of troubleshooting later.
