A garment that looks perfect immediately after production but develops lifting or separation after dry cleaning has usually experienced an incomplete or unsuitable bond. Dry cleaning, pressing, and repeated movement place additional stress on the adhesive connection. For formal garments such as suits, blazers, and sherwanis, this can become a serious quality concern. Fusible interlining should therefore be selected and applied with the garment’s complete lifecycle in mind rather than judged only when it first comes off the fusing press.
Under-fusing is a common reason for delayed delamination. The adhesive may have made initial contact with the fashion fabric without reaching the activation level needed for a durable connection. Incorrect temperature, insufficient pressure, or inadequate dwell time can all contribute. Operators should also verify the direction of the material and make sure the adhesive-coated side is correctly positioned. If only edges are lifting, pressure distribution may need attention, particularly when working with small collar, cuff, or placket pieces.
Choosing the correct interlining fabric can reduce the risk further. A material designed for heavy formal wear may perform differently from one intended for lightweight components. Manufacturers should conduct a test fuse using the actual fabric and planned production settings, then evaluate the sample after cooling and an appropriate care cycle. If separation occurs, adjust one process variable at a time so the root cause can be identified. This controlled approach is more effective than changing the material and machine settings simultaneously. By validating bonding before bulk production, factories can reduce returns, rework, and customer complaints.
