A garment can leave the pressing department looking flawless and still develop problems after washing, ironing, or dry cleaning. Bubbling collars, lifting edges, and soft suit fronts are often signs that the bonding process was incomplete. The purpose of fusible interlining is to create a durable connection between the fashion fabric and its supporting layer through heat and pressure. When that connection is weak, the garment can lose its structure and finish much sooner than expected. The problem may come from incorrect machine settings, unsuitable materials, poor surface contact, or mishandling immediately after pressing.

Temperature, pressure, and dwell time work together during fusing. If the temperature is too low, the adhesive may not melt sufficiently. Excessive heat can scorch the fabric, create shine, or cause the adhesive to spread too far. Pressure ensures contact between the layers, while sufficient time allows the adhesive to activate completely. Manufacturers should also confirm that the coated side faces the fashion fabric. Wrinkles, uneven press beds, seams trapped beneath panels, dust, moisture, and fabric finishes can also interfere with adhesion.

Selecting the correct interlining fabric is equally important. Heavy suit fronts and sherwanis generally require stronger woven grades, while collars, cuffs, and plackets can often use lighter constructions. A test fuse on the actual production fabric is one of the simplest ways to identify problems before they affect an entire batch. Manufacturers can inspect the sample after cooling, folding, washing, or dry cleaning to confirm that the bond remains stable. This approach helps distinguish material issues from process issues and makes production more predictable.
